My first experience was the Doctor Who TV movie in 1996. I didn't know much about the show other than the Daleks. Then the revival series came back on in 2005, I was older and married and have enjoyed it since. In 2013, for the 50th my friends and I did a year long tribute to the Doctors... Each month for a Doctor
Happy memories. I used to have a book all about K9 that included a cut-out and assemble paper model. If I recall correctly, there was one about Daleks too.
Lovely to hear all this. Though I must confess, I've never really watched Doctor Who. Maybe a few snippets. I've always meant to get around to it, but it seems there's a lot. I've thought about just watching from the modern Doctors. Maybe I will sometime soon. Now's a good time start I think, and I do like the universe. I watched a lot of Sarah Jane when it was on CBBC and have lots of fond memories of those characters, some scary monsters, and the appearances of Tennant or Smith's Doctor
My first memories of Doctor Who is of Jon Pertwee's last season and being terrified of those damn spiders. My second memory of Doctor Who is the first episode of the next season when I met "my Doctor" and I was hooked for life.
So many great memories of stories, companions, villains, monsters and of course, K9.
Haha this is great. My dad tried to get me to watch it while I was young but it was too scary.
I started watching it because I found out my wife liked it when we were first going out in 2010. So I bought as many seasons as I could and got hooked.
For much of my life I was vaguely aware of the show but had never watched it. I was visiting my parents during a holiday break from university when I learned that my sister, who up until then had never much cared for sci-fi, had seemingly suddenly become a devoted fan. (Or at least was a fan of the revival.) She was watching a rerun of “Turn Left” when I decided to see what all the fuss was about.
I made it about 5 minutes before I decided it wasn’t for me and I left the room.
Then, about a year or two later, my girlfriend at the time convinced me to actually watch them properly, in order, rather than just watching the middle of an episode for five minutes, especially that episode. So we set about watching NuWho and watched up through whatever was current at the time (the start of Capaldi iirc), and to my surprise, I greatly enjoyed it! I’ve since kept up with the show and made a point to check out classic Doctor Who as well (although I probably haven’t watched as much of that as I ought to have.)
I love this story. Tom Baker was my first and still my favorite Doctor. It was so hard to catch Doctor Who episodes when I was a kid and it would be an amazing Saturday if I got to see at least 2 Doctor Who episodes.
How I fell in love with Doctor Who (or, rather, his robot dog!)
Love it Cavan.

I didn't start watching Doctor Who until the reboot with #9. I didn't know what I was missing!
