Introducing a new tier of subscriber goodies on the Cavletter
A new way you can support me and my work from today!
I’m excited to announce that from today, there is a new way to support me and this newsletter as I launch a paid tier to the Cavletter.
No, wait. Wait! Don’t run away! Nothing is changing for free subscribers! Nothing at all! You’ll still get my regular Being Creative posts on Tuesdays, Perfect Sunday posts at the weekend, plus my Friday updates every other week. And yes, a lot of those will probably feature Guinea Pig pictures like this one:
What I’m doing is adding something extra for paid subscribers. For a small fee every month — less than a pound a week if you take the annual sub — you’ll get extra goodies that will hopefully bring a little more joy to your life.
Why am I doing this now? Well, first and foremost, I love this community and want to be able to dedicate more time to building it, offering as much advice, behind-the-scene reveals and insight as possible, but that takes time, which for a freelancer, also means money and energy. Supporting me with a paid sub helps me dedicate time to the Cavletter and everything we’re building around it.
Here’s what you’ll get as well as all the regular free content if you decide to upgrade:
1. A monthly video get-together / kaffeeklatsch
Kaffeklatsches are one of my favourite things to do at a convention. For those who don’t know, a kaffeeklatsch is an informal social gathering for coffee and conversation, sometimes centred around a subject, sometimes just a chance to shoot the breeze. Paid subscribers will get an opportunity to do this as a private Zoom call. I see this as being an evening get-together once a month for about an hour. Occasionally, there will be a theme or maybe a special guest, but most of the time, it will be a chance for you to ask me questions or to talk about things we’ve loved that month!
Links will be sent out to subscribers once a month in time for you to pull up a chair and chat!
2. A monthly delve into the archives
This will be a special post only available to paid supporters where I’ll focus on a book, comic or audio from my back-catalogue, revealing how it was put together, behind-the-scenes info I’ve never talked about publically, as well as key creative lessons I learned along the way. With over 20 years in the business, I’ve a lot of stories to tell.
3. The ability to suggest future topics for posts
Self-explanatory, but I’ll be asking paid subscribers regularly what kind of things you like to see in the newsletter.
4. Special sketches on anything purchased from my store
I’ve recently rediscovered a love of sketching and so will be offering paid sketches in any book or comic purchased via my webstore.
Disclaimer: This is the level of art available, just to manage your expectations!
5. Entry into exclusive prize draws for paid subscribers
I’ll be offering a monthly prize draw that is only available to paid subscribers, including signed books, comics and other goodies. We’ll be kicking off with a signed copy of the Jaxxon annual that was only available at this year’s Star Wars Celebration! Yes, the one with the Mike Mignola cover! Only paid supporters will be entered into the draw, which will be pulled out of the rabbit’s hat on May 31st, with a monthly giveaway after that.
6. An original Christmas Ghost Story posted every December
It’s no secret that I love ghost stories. Every December, I will write and post an original ghost story, available to read first by my paid subscribers. I’m hoping that as our subscriber numbers grow, I will be able to offer more original fiction, but the annual ghost story is guaranteed every Yuletide as my present to you!
7. My eternal thanks
By subscribing, you will be supporting both this newsletter and my work, allowing me to spend more time creating new stories as well as building the community here on Substack.
If that all sounds good, then you can subscribe today by hitting the button below. A few of you have already pledged your support, so thank you! I’m really looking forward to taking this newsletter to the next level with your help!
I’m launching the paid subscriptions at the lowest levels Substack offers, $5 a month or $50 if you take out a yearly sub. That’s just 96 cents a week, cheaper than a coffee!
Thank you all for your support. It means so much to me!
PS: If you really want to support me and my work, there is also a founding member tier, which is $100 a year. For this, you will receive all of the above, a shout-out in one of my newsletters and on social media, and a printed version of my annual Christmas story posted to you with a personal Christmas card!
Good proposal for everyone at every aspect. One more motivation for me to close my debts)
And one more like for the Guinea Pig
